Enable SMTP port 26 in exim
The standard port used for SMTP connections is 25. Many a times ISP block this port and thats one of the most common reasons for not being able to send messages. Using an alternative SMTP port is highly recommended in this case.
log into your WHM, then go to the Main >> Service Configuration >> Service Manager
then toward the bottom of the page you'll see two check boxes for "exim on another port",
enter the port(default 26),
check the 2 boxes and "save", then will allow Exim to run on the additional port
The folowing command useful for checking SMTP port
#netstat -apn |grep 26tcp 0 0 :::26 :::* LISTEN PID/exim
Also, you can try ,
telnet 0 26
Trying xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx...
Connected to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.
Escape character is '^]'.
Done
